Woman Fights Back: Tractor-Trailer Invaders Wreak Havoc on Her Property

A lot of people invest their time, money, and energy into making their houses attractive. But what occurs when harm comes to the property and there appears to be no solution? A certain lady is urgently looking for assistance with her predicament.

"It’s extremely annoying. I feel irritated. This is my home. My property. And I’m the one who takes care of everything,” stated Suzanna Eisenhour.

Her pride and joy it is. Eisenhour relocated to York County nearly a decade ago.

In recent months, an issue beyond her control has begun to emerge in her front yard.

“And here goes someone making a right-hand turn, which is against the rules, but no one seems to be intervening,” she remarked.

At the junction of York and Musser in East Manchester Township, truck drivers are reportedly taking an unauthorized right turn onto her street.

"Their presence here on York Road is unauthorized. There are warning signs at Willow Springs, but they disregard them," Eisenhour stated.

She mentions that the trucks are damaging her front yard.

She has requested assistance from law enforcement to uphold the regulations indicated on the signs and issue citations to violators.

"I just don't think enough of them are getting ticketed. This morning I was out here. In seven minutes, I could've wrote six tickets!" she said.

She says more signs are needed, specifically on her street.

Boulders do little to prevent damage

The damage is stressful and costly for Eisenhour.

"We've spent a couple hundred dollars because obviously we bought fill in and the boulders," she said.

She put up boulders, but she has since moved them to the other side of her driveway due to truckers moving the boulders over.

She offers video evidence from her home camera showing a trailer colliding with a rock (referenced below).

She says it's getting worse as more and more businesses open nearby.

"They continuously keep putting warehouses back the road here, so in the last year, it's got bad. In the last six, eight months, it's terrible. The volume of tractor-trailers have quadrupled. It's horrible, horrible," Eisenhour said.

Township response

Eisenhour took her frustrations to an East Manchester Township meeting.

We reached out to East Manchester Township police to ask how they are enforcing the posted traffic signs. They responded with this statement:

"The township has installed barrels on the resident's property (which have been removed due to being destroyed), placing a "no right turn" sign on Zions View Road."

The township has been making significant efforts to assist, however, since it’s a state road, their capabilities are limited. We have contacted our lawyer because they should not be permitted to proceed with this. I am unsure about what actions PennDOT could take,” stated Eisenhour.

PennDOT adds signs

Dave Thompson with PennDOT mentioned he witnessed the destruction personally and grasps the irritation.

"Recently, we found out that big trucks have been turning right at that intersection, causing damage to her yard. Our team went out to assess the circumstances," Thompson stated.

Trucks should follow Route 921 to George Street then proceed onto I-83 according to Thompson. He mentions that there aren’t any signs showing a prohibition against right turns for trucks at the intersection of York and Musser streets.

"We opted to enhance signage and ban right turns from Route 921 onto York Street. Our aim is to decrease the level of damage," Thompson stated.

Once we began investigating this matter, PennDOT stated they would install two extra signs at this junction along with additional signage nearby directing truck drivers toward I-83.

"Driving the vehicles for these individuals isn’t possible. Our hope is that the truck drivers will notice these signs and understand they should turn right onto George Street just after going up one block," explained Thompson.

According to PennDOT, property owners have the option to act should this occur. They suggest installing barriers around your property; however, ensure these do not extend onto the roadway itself. Reach out to your local government body, which will subsequently inform PennDOT about the situation.

Everybody is pitching in to support Eisenhour and this community, however, once the signs are put up, it's beyond PennDOT's control.

"Once individuals disregard that right turn rule, it shifts into a matter of law enforcement involving the police," Thompson stated.

'I will hold my position'

Eisenhour states she will keep fighting until action is taken.

"I'm going to stand my ground. I love my house. We pay our taxes. I mean, if my property was junky and I had trash sitting here and everything, do you think I’d get a citation? You bet I would. But these trucks can keep doing it and doing it and doing it, and one out of 10 gets a ticket? I don't understand it," Eisenhour said.

The upcoming township meeting is scheduled for May 13.
