This Evanescence Song in 'The Rehearsal' Left Me Speechless

Nathan Fielder’s mindset is an enigma that nobody really comprehends. As you watch The Rehearsal It’s abundantly clear that he ranks among the most unpredictable individuals globally. However, in episode 3 of season 2, Fielder escalated his bizarre behavior to new heights.

Throughout much of season 2, we've observed Fielder attempting to manage the delicate dynamic between a captain and a first officer. Analyzing this strained connection among aviation professionals has been a focal point for Fielder, pushing him to use his academic insights to address their issues with each other. His efforts included rehabilitating a cloned dog so that it would behave similarly to the original animal as well as taking on additional tasks.

However, in the latest episode, Fielder used the cloned dog idea to draw parallels with Chesley Sullenberger, known as Sully, the individual behind the "Miracle on the Hudson" aircraft landing incident. He believed that by conditioning his clone, he might mold himself into someone akin to Sully. Yet, among the most bizarre actions he took was linking Sully to the rock band Evanescence.

Led by Amy Lee, Evanescence is a rock group known for hits such as "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal." Using his investigative abilities, Fielder linked the band to the Miracle on the Hudson incident, suggesting that the 23-second pause in the crash transcript from Captain Sullenberger corresponds with the pilot listening to the famous track "Bring Me to Life."

Listen, I had heard stories about the song featuring in an episode. Even though I knew it was coming, nothing could have gotten me ready for seeing Fielder portraying Sully while this effectively motivational track played. It felt oddly perfectly suited, and now all I can do is fully embrace this vision.

It has Amy Lee’s stamp of approval

When it comes to the internet, discussing TV shows is commonplace, and Nathan Fielder’s distinctive style of humor is no different. Not evenAmy Lee has remained silent on the matter. The Rehearsal . The singer spoke with Vulture regarding the song's addition to the HBO series and commended Fielder for their choice in song placement.

“He’s some sort of genius,” Lee commented. “I adore it tremendously. I’d be thrilled to spread the word far and wide, encouraging everyone to check it out, yet at the same time, I think I must issue strong warnings. Oh dear, remember when someone choked on milk from the puppet breast? I had my hands over my eyes, watching with dread.”

She went so far as to mention that she felt moved because Fielder believed Sully was listening to her song when he proceeded to rescue his passengers. "It's incredibly lovely to think that something like a song could provide you with a way to open up when you don't feel like you're truly supposed to. I connect with that sentiment."

And Lee is a fan of this season. “I feel like the path he’s going down with pilots this season feels like he’s actually trying to solve a problem,” she said. “It’s about the crashes, and about the communication, and about the social world of that community—which, as outsiders, we don’t really know anything about. It’s so fascinating to see that there’s a deficiency right there. It seems like what Fielder is trying to do would be really good for people.”

Unless Sully negates this story, I am now going to believe that he took 23 seconds to himself to listen to the chorus of “Bring Me to Life.”
