Lavelle and Carroll: Former Rye Teammates Head to 2025 PLL Draft

There is more hard work to be done.

Brendan Lavelle He was selected in the first round of the 2025 Premiere Lacrosse League Draft on Tuesday by the Utah Archers, who moved up three positions to acquire this gritty defensive player. This athlete started his lacrosse journey at Rye and further established himself as someone adept at shutting down opponents during his time at Penn.

He was taken fifth overall by the league's two-time defending champion.

Lavelle received All-Ivy honors twice and was selected as a preseason All-American by USA Lacrosse. She will also be participating in the league alongside Emmet Carroll , a teammate from our grade school days. This time, they'll be on different teams for the first instance. The previous Rye and Penn goalkeeper was selected by the Maryland Whipsnakes in the third round as the 20th overall pick.

A third participant with ties to Westchester added to the pair.

Bryce Ford was selected as the 32nd and last pick in the fourth round by the Archers. This evasive midfielder began his career at John Jay-Cross River high school, then moved on to play for Fairfield University, concluding his college years at Maryland.

The last Westchester player drafted by a PLL team was Brett Makar A highly regarded defender from Yorktown who continued his career at the University of Maryland, was selected as the third pick overall in the 2023 draft by the New York Atlas. The Premier Lacrosse League now comprises eight teams, with their season set to start on May 30 in Albany.

BRENDAN LAVELLE

HEIGHT: 6-0

WEIGHT: 210

POSITION: Defense

GAME : Lavelle is not shy. He’s a sneaky good athlete who plays all the angles then gets physical when a determined attacker moves toward a comfort zone.

COLLEGE Lavelle began 55 matches over his five-year tenure at Penn. During the most recent campaign, he generated 12 forced turnovers and secured 36 ground balls, earning him a spot as part of the All-Ivy First Team for two consecutive years. In addition, Lavelle received recognition as both a USA Lacrosse All-American in 2024 and a Preseason All-American in 2025.

HIGH SCHOOL: Lavelle was a two-year captain in football and lacrosse at Rye. He was part of the Garnets’ 2019 Section 1 lacrosse title and picked up All-American and first-team lohud All-Star honors that season.

EMMET CARROLL

HEIGHT: 6-3

WEIGHT: 205

POSITION: Goalie

GAME: Carroll remains composed in the net and usually chooses to remain at home and respond to the shot. His technique is solid, yet he'll utilize his whole body for saves when needed. Additionally, Carroll excels in communication and holds the esteemed position of a respected defensive captain.

COLLEGE: During his time at Penn last season, Carroll encountered 515 shot attempts, concluding with a save efficiency of .528 and conceding an average of 10.22 goals per game. Although he received honorable mention recognition for All-Ivy honors, Carroll managed 44 starting appearances throughout his college career as part of the Quakers team, ending up with a goals-against-average of .559.

HIGH SCHOOL: Carroll was a four-year member of the varsity at Rye and won a Section 1 title in 2019. He was named All-American that year, as well.

BRYCE FORD

HEIGHT: 5-8

WEIGHT: 190

POSITION: Midfield

GAME: Ford is a skilled and intuitive goalscorer and creator. During his last three years at Fairfield, he excelled in attacking roles before seamlessly transitioning to a new position at Maryland where his adaptability and proficiency in finishing with either hand were effectively utilized.

COLLEGE: During his time as a graduate student at Maryland, Ford started in 14 games and scored 18 goals along with providing seven assists. Over the course of five seasons, including a redshirt year in 2021, he amassed 46 starting appearances for Fairfield, accumulating 102 goals and 60 assists. Additionally, he secured 87 ground balls and triggered 22 turnovers. Twice, Ford earned recognition as an All-CAA Second Team member.

HIGH SCHOOL: In 2018 and 2019, Ford contributed to two Section 1 Class B championship victories at John Jay High School. During those years, he earned recognition as a USA Lacrosse All-American and was named the 2019 Lohud Player of the Year for his performance in Westchester.
