Trump's Course to Revive Scottish Championship on DP World Tour

The Scottish Championship has been included in the DP World Tour calendar for 2025 and will be held at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire.

The $2.75 million (£2 million) event, which was included in the Race to Dubai series back in 2020, is scheduled from August 7th through August 10th. This follows right after the same location hosts the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship for the third consecutive year.

Eric Trump, who serves as the executive vice president of The Trump Organization, celebrated the announcement as a "substantial achievement that underscores the dedication of our team and truly showcases the outstanding golfing experience and service we provide in Scotland."

Trump's father, US President Donald Trump, also owns Turnberry and has reportedly spoke with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer about the Open Championship going back to the Ayrshire location, where it was last held in 2009.

Last month, Chief Executive Mark Darbon reaffirmed the R&A's position that the emphasis should be on what any Open must be solely on the golf and also voiced concerns around the infrastructure around the Ayrshire course.

The golf course is spectacular," Darbon remarked. "In fact, it's even better today than at any time before, thanks to several enhancements that have been implemented.

“But there are some challenges around the road and rail network, some of the accommodation provision in the surrounding area, and so we're working on what a model could look like for the future,” he added.

Over the course of its history, Turnberry has hosted the Open four times, in 1977, 1986, 1994 and 2009, with the first edition later becoming famous for the battle between Jack Niklaus and eventual winner Tom Watson.

In 2014, Trump acquired Turnberry for an amount thought to be approximately £39.5 million. Since then, roughly £200 million has been spent on enhancing the property at this location.
