Celtics Drop Big Jrue Holiday Update Ahead of Knicks Showdown
Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics extended their quest for consecutive titles by narrowly beating the Orlando Magic with a 4-1 series victory in the opening round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs.
Beating the Magic in just five games was definitely not an effortless feat for Boston. Led by Paolo Banchero, Orlando possessed one of the top defenses in the league, compelling the Celtics to move away from their reliance on long-range shooting.
The aggressive play from the Magic resulted in some injuries for Boston players. Tatum suffered a wrist injury during Game 1, causing him to sit out Game 2. Meanwhile, Jaylen Brown continues to grapple with ongoing knee problems.
However, as the second-round series against the New York Knicks approaches, the bigger concern for Boston might be the recent injury to Jrue Holiday.

Holiday sustained a hamstring injury which caused him to sit out the last three games of the Magic series. He was instrumental in the first two games, effectively containing Banchero and Franz Wagner during one-on-one plays.
On Friday, Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla revealed that Holiday has been listed as day-to-day For Game 1 on Monday.
“On a daily basis,” Mazzulla stated. “He just keeps improving each day, putting in the effort to ensure he gets back as quickly as possible. He’s really giving it his all.”
Nevertheless, on Sunday, the Celtics published their injury report only a single day ahead of the game, and it contained nothing at all, indicating that Holiday ought to be good to go for Game 1 against the Knicks.
Against the Magic, Holiday put up averages of 10.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, leading his team with 5.5 assists and adding 1.5 steals across two contests.
The Celtics will certainly be happy to have their two-way guard back, especially when facing Jalen Brunson and the loaded Knicks starting lineup. Game 1 will be on Monday at 7:00 p.m. ET at TD Garden.
