Worcester Votes: Meet the Candidates Who've Made the Ballot
Worcester — The city plans to conduct an initial municipal election on September 2nd with the aim of reducing the number of contenders vying for the six at-large positions on the City Council as well as the District E School Committee member role.
Bypassing the September primary election and moving straight to the November 4 general election ballot will include two contenders for each City Council district position and three nominees for the two at-large School Committee roles, along with several others.
After the May 6 deadline, the city clerk’s office confirmed the signatures of 14 contenders for the six at-large council positions and three applicants for the District E School Committee position.
Candidates for city councilor-at-large
The September 2nd ballot will feature current At-Large City Councillors Joseph M. Petty, Khrystian E. King, Morris A. Bergman, Donna M. Colorio, and Kathleen M. Toomey as incumbents.
The sixth incumbent, Thu Nguyen chose not to run for reelection.
Challengers vying for the at-large seats will be Bernard P. Iandoli, Cayden Davis, Charles E. Luster, Edson Montero, Gary Rosen, Jermoh Kamara, Jessica R. Pepple, Owura-Kwaku Sarkodieh and Satya B. Mitra.
Although all at-large council members are automatically eligible for the mayoral position, only Petty and King have announced their intentions to run for the seat. At-large candidates can opt out of the mayor's race.
After initially announcing that he would run for an at-large seat, Former District 1 Councilor Sean Rose recently reversed course on his intentions for council.
