TN Contractor at Heart of WSMV4 Investigation Fined by State
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Tennessee contractor at the center of a WSMV4 Investigation has now been fined by the state for working without a license.
In September 2024, when we first presented you to the homeowner, , she had recently paid a contractor nearly $18,000 for a deck that remained unfinished. "I am feeling terrible and let down," the woman expressed.
The authorities investigated her complaint against Deck Masters of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and discovered that the firm had carried out work on her property in Nashville without having the proper licensing.
During our earlier conversation with the owner of Deck Masters over the phone, he first said, "In Tennessee, you aren't required to be a licensed contractor for building decks."
The comment is incorrect. A number of counties require a home improvement permit for work priced from $3,000 to $25,000; this includes Davidson County. When asked about the particular job in question, the business proprietor mentioned that they were unaware such a license was necessary back then.
Below are guidelines for watching WSMV4 live across different platforms.
The authorities urged him to obtain a permit to prevent any potential missteps, yet upon checking on Tuesday, no active permit appeared under the name of Deck Masters.
Among more than ten firms listed in the state’s most recent Disciplinary Action Report for operating without proper licensing, fines range from $250 to $10,000 were imposed. Deck Masters was hit with a $500 civil fine but hasn’t settled this debt yet. As such, the matter has been handed over to a collection agency.
The woman found Deck Masters through Angi, a home service company. We had earlier discovered several unlicensed contractors through that website. Angie informed us that individuals should verify the licenses of these companies themselves.
