Teen Sprint Star Gout Gout Predicts Olympic Feats with a Jocular Jab at AFL Team

  • Has been compared to the renowned Usain Bolt
  • Youngster outlined his career goals in rare TV interview

Australian sprint star Gout Gout undoubtedly exudes plenty of confidence, having stated his ambition to truly dominate like Usain Bolt has been active on the world stage for nearly a decade.

The 17-year-old, who attends Ipswich Grammar School in Brisbane was a visitor on Fox Sports' The Back Page on Tuesday.

Despite finding the ongoing comparisons to the renowned Jamaican sprinter tiresome, as pointed out by Gout, the young athlete strongly feels he has what it takes to follow in his idol’s footsteps. The legendary runner claimed an unprecedented eight Olympic gold medals throughout their extraordinary athletic career.

'I think the limit is just obviously winning Olympics and winning world championships and honestly dominating like Bolt did,' Gout said.

'I think that limit is reachable for me.'

As the 2032 Brisbane Games approach, the expectation for Gout to perform at his home Olympic event – assuming he qualifies – will be enormous.

But Gout believes he can first leave an impression at the LA Games come 2028.

"The races I have completed so far might possibly qualify for the finals, placing within the top four, top five, or even top six," he stated.

'Simply improving and targeting Los Angeles would undoubtedly be a significant accomplishment, particularly when striving to stand on that podium competing with Olympian 200m gold medalistLetsile Tebogo, Noah Lyles, Lachlan Kennedy, among others.'

'Absolutely, achieving that is my aim, and I'm consistently striving for excellence.'

Gout's times are incredible given his age and the fact he is still maturing physically.

His personal best for the 100 meters is a wind-aided time of 9.99 seconds, which isn’t too distant from Bolt’s astonishing world record of 9.58 seconds established back in 2009.

The young athlete strongly feels that he will be able to surpass Bolt's 19.19 record in the 200 meters one day, as this is his most preferred race.

The impressive wind-aided time of 19.84 seconds in the 200 meters at the Australian Athletics Championships in April has validated the expectations surrounding Gout’s performance.

The up-and-coming player mentioned that he recently had a chance encounter with several Collingwood AFL players during a domestic flight.

The Magpies team members were eager for a photograph and a starstruck Gout was happy to oblige, but this will not change his support for the Brisbane Lions.

"I was looking at the stars when they approached me requesting a picture, which seemed quite surreal," he mentioned.

'Obviously, those athletes are incredible. I think Collingwood is neat, but the Brisbane Lions outshine them. However, having fans ask for photographs is wonderful.'
