Suspect Fatally Shot by Police in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico

The New Mexico State Police are investigating a deadly shooting that involved one of their officers.

According to NMSP, the suspect passed away during the shooting incident, but the officer is unharmed. The state police are currently looking into two specific zones in Truth or Consequences as part of their investigation.

The initial incident occurred at a gas station located on North Date Street, with the second taking place on High Winds Road, close to State Highway 181. The shootings transpired sometime on Tuesday, May 6th.

NMSP Director Troy Weisler stated that the law enforcement reaction began with a traffic stop during an update provided on Tuesday evening.

This led to a police pursuit where the fatal shooting happened on High Winds Road, near the state highway. He said gunshots were exchanged between the officer and suspect.

The individual of interest has yet to be pinpointed.
