State Route 38A Reopens Following Cayuga County Flooding

Updated at 7 A.M. on July 5, 2025: State Route 38A has been opened again, along with other minor roads at the south part of Cayuga County, as reported by the county sheriff’s department.

They similarly recommend exercising care while driving due to persistent flooding and debris on the roadways.

CAYUGA COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department is warning motorists about closed roads because of flooding.

The Sheriff’s Department reports that heavy rain on Tuesday, May 6 led to the closure of State Route 38A from Dewitt Road in Niles to Sayles Corners Road in Moravia.

Motorists are advised against driving through floodwaters because culverts might have been eroded away beneath the surface, and certain streams may be flowing rapidly and pose significant risks.

They likewise warn motorists that several secondary routes in the region have been inundated and cannot be traversed, along with numerous streets in King Ferry and at the south end of Cayuga County.

The Sheriff’s Department states that the anticipated rain on Tuesday and Wednesday might complicate matters in these regions, advising motorists to prepare themselves accordingly.
