Splash! 70 Rising Nurses Keep Tradition Afloat at UI Commencement
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – Seventy recently graduated University of Illinois students are embarking on new careers in the healthcare sector. On Tuesday afternoon, nursing graduates dived into the ARC pool as part of an enduring custom spanning many years.
Currently, they're getting ready to work in physicians' clinics, medical facilities, and similar sectors. They will help fill a void as the country deals with a nursing shortfall.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics forecasts By 2030, an additional 275,000 nurses will be required.
For the newly graduated nurse Isaac Herrera, he is enthusiastic about assisting patients and representing Latino nurses.
"I have the ability to demonstrate that everyone can achieve this through dedication and perseverance. Showing this to other Latinos holds significant power within our community," he stated.
Starting her nursing career with her mother holds significant importance for Olivia Furmanek.
We attended CNA school together. We worked as technicians together," the graduate stated. "My mother has always inspired me to thrive in this profession, and she motivated me to pursue nursing school." They continued, "I completed nursing school and truly enjoyed it. Afterward, my mother decided to enroll in nursing school herself. Now we're going through this journey together. All of this is dedicated to my mom.
Those participating in the program at Urbana-Champaign will make their way to Chicago for their graduation ceremony. The UIC campus on Thursday, May 2nd. .
