Southern University's Cardell Thibodeaux Honors Family With Every Swing
BATON ROUGE, La. ( Louisiana First ) — One of the best batters in the country plays on the Bluff. Southern University junior outfielder Cardell Thibodeaux is currently second in the country in batting average (.455) and tied for 8th in home runs (14).
The ULM transfer has been the core of the Jags’ offense all season long, but there’s more to the junior’s success than what you can see on a stat sheet.
He carries a heart as heavy as his bat with him every time he steps up to the plate.
Cardell lost his cousin in a car accident right before the season started, and just a few months before the tragedy, he lost two more loved ones.
“Losing anyone is tough,” said Thibodeaux. “Sometimes it’s hard to grieve. I know that God has a purpose for me and my family; they believe in me and want what’s best for me. So, I know that with the support system that I have, everything is going to be fine, and I know that God isn’t going to give me too much that I can’t handle.”
Throughout all the loss and grief, Thibodeaux turned to the diamond to find peace and turned that pain into fuel, driving him to have one of the best seasons in program history.
