Police Seize Teen’s Stolen Tesla in Connection to Murder Near Clovis McDonald's

Authorities have confiscated a Tesla which they suspect might be linked to the killing of a teenager near a Clovis McDonald's last month.

On Tuesday, the Clovis Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence located approximately one mile from the site where 18-year-old Caleb Quick was fatally shot.

Around 10:30 a.m., investigators entered the residence and emerged with a young woman who was in handcuffs.

They then opened the garage to reveal a 2024 white Tesla.

According to police, the Tesla is thought to have been used as the get-away vehicle in the fatal shooting.

"There has been significant progress in solving the case here. No doubts remain about this," stated Action News Legal Analyst Tony Capozzi.

What investigators will search for is gunshot residue. A person who fires a gun, whether once or multiple times, will likely develop gunshot residue on their skin, particularly their hands, as well as their clothing. If this individual then enters a vehicle, they might inadvertently leave some of this residue inside the car.

This was a major break in the case. There's no question about this.

As the car was taken away, Action News saw investigators talking with a 16-year-old girl.

His legal representative affirms that she was held for a short time and subsequently let go without undergoing an interrogation.

Capozzi says what she knows could be key.

His lawyer confirms that she was held for a short time and subsequently let go without being interviewed.

Capozzi says what she knows could be key.

"I would think if this person who's driving, and if this person knew what was happening, you're going to see an arrest very shortly from today. By the end of the week, somebody will be arrested," said Capozzi.

The suspect was seen on surveillance video inside the McDonald's before the deadly shooting.

Investigators believe the suspect ran west across 10 lanes of traffic into Fresno, where they say a white Tesla was waiting.

"The 2024 or newer model, on the back portion here, it actually spells out "Tesla" versus having a symbol. That's why we know it's a 2024 or newer," Clovis Police Chief Curt Fleming said in a press conference last week.

Valley Crime Stoppers says tips have been pouring in for this case.

Erica Magarian, who serves as the executive director of Valley Crime Stoppers, stated that she believes they are displeased about the crime taking place and are eager for justice to be carried out.

By Tuesday evening, there has been no update regarding a suspect, and no arrests have been reported.
