Peek Inside: The 2025 Met Gala Revealed

Tonight, all attention will be on the red—or more precisely, blue—carpet at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art as guests arrive. the Met Gala are well under way, and although most viewers are concentrating on the top-notch fashion, we're pausing to admire the intricate decor just up those famous steps .

The theme for this year's Costume Institute exhibit is entitled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," Although the dress code is "Customized for You," this lets visitors express their take on men’s wear and tailoring in a manner that holds personal significance. According to Vogue Most of the ideas for this year's gala decorations come from the artwork "Untitled (Sky)" by artist Cy Gavin.

Gavin told Vogue He stumbled across a meadow filled with daffodils in Upstate New York and started contemplating the flower along with its Latin name, derived from the Greek legend of Narcissus. In this artwork, various perspectives of the bloom are depicted, and within the piece, these blooms also evoke images of stars. This evening, "Untitled (Sky)" will be displayed as a projection on the ceiling. the Temple of Dendur During the Met Gala banquet.

The entrance carpet similarly draws inspiration from Gavin’s creations. Instead of the traditional red carpet, this one is colored in a deep midnight blue and features yellow floral patterns. Alongside, daffodils adorn the edges of the carpet.

In the Grand Hall, Tony Award-nominated set designer Derek McLane and event planner Raúl Ávila brought the artwork to life with an impressive display featuring more than 7,000 suspended narcissus flowers as part of a grandiose central decoration.

McLane informed Vogue that the blooms emerge from a central well, stretching toward the sky before transforming into evening stars and then dipping back down into two reflective ponds. Additionally, hanging blossoms adorn the stairs leading upwards to the European galleries as Ávila mentioned to Vogue, adding, “It’s breathtaking.”
