Justin Fields Poised for Career Revival with the Jets

The New York Jets are counting on Justin Fields being "the" guy for the franchise in 2025, having already nailed their colors to his mast by announcing him as the starter over Tyrod Taylor.

As Fields hasn’t fully taken control of the offensive lead to be considered the long-term solution in either Chicago or Pittsburgh, his move to the Jets brings renewed hope that this time around, he will establish himself firmly in the role.

Having been 4-2 as the starter with the Steelers last season, Fields lost the starting role to Russell Wilson, so it isn't like Justin was "bad," but more so, Mike Tomlin wanted more.

According to Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports, Fields could be the next quarterback to experience a career revival with another team when the league seems to have written him off.

"Over the last few years, we've seen some once highly touted quarterbacks have late career blooms like Baker Mayfield, Geno Smith, and, more recently, Sam Darnold," Benjamin writes For the Jets, they’re taking a chance with Justin Fields possibly continuing this trend by signing the ex-Steelers quarterback to a two-year, $40 million deal during free agency.

"Last season, Fields was 4-2 as the starter for Pittsburgh, and the offense averaged 20.7 points per game. Given his relationship with former Ohio State teammate Garrett Wilson, there is reason to suggest that Fields could be even more productive during his tenure with New York."

Fields boasts a strong offensive line, an effective running back duo featuring Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, complemented by Garrett Wilson and rookie Mason Taylor as key playmakers.

However, Fields requires a true second-string wide receiver to provide him with an option besides Wilson to target, since defenders can focus on stopping Wilson without fearing contributions from Wilson or Allen Lazard.

Should, and this is a significant should, the Jets manage to acquire another substantial asset for Fields, then considering the support system being established around him, along with the culture that Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey aim to foster, he could very well become the next quarterback to experience improved performance.

However, that's quite a significant request.
