Heavy Rain Nears: New Orleans Braces for Downpours

AFlash flood warning is currently active across sections of Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Charles, Plaquemines, and St. John parishes until 12:45 p.m. Expect an additional deluge of 1 to 3 inches of rain, which could result in potential flash flooding.

A flood watch remains in effect for all of Southeast Louisiana until 7 p.m. Thursday due to the possibility of heavy rainfall and potential flash floods.

As much as 4-6 inches with locally higher totals up to 10 inches are possible through Thursday. Although there is a lower chance to see higher amounts, the chance is still there as some areas could continue to see heavy rain over and over.

A moderate flood risk at level 3 has been extended to cover the New Orleans Metropolitan area through the night until Wednesday morning, whereas the remainder of Southeast Louisiana faces a lower, level 2 slight flood risk.

A moderate flood threat at Level 3 out of 4 is currently active for the Greater New Orleans area, including the River Parishes, as well as the northern parts of Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes. Meanwhile, the remaining areas face a lower Level 2 risk due to potential heavy rainfall and localized flooding expected on Wednesday.

The risk for flooding will continue into Thursday as well, but we're just a level 1, marginal risk.

Forecasts out of the Weather Prediction Center (WPC) are calling for widespread rain totals of 4"-6"+ across all of Southeast Louisiana. Some spots, however, could see up to 10 inches of rain.
