Farmers Unite: "Blessing of the Balers" Celebrates Harvest at State Capitol
(WHTM) — Agriculture is a significant industry in Pennsylvania, yet adverse weather conditions and faulty machinery can devastate an entire farming cycle. Therefore, some farmers were recently granted a special blessing to help them through these challenges.
Farmers came to the State Capitol with pieces of their equipment for the “Blessing of the Balers.” The blessing signifies hope for a productive growing season.
"We place our trust in farming for all the essentials of our daily life, and similarly, we should rely on our machinery and the tasks at hand," stated Russell Redding, the Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture.
“Another thing about our farmers, they spend 50% of the time praying for rain and the other 50% praying for sunshine,” said Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington counties)
Certainly enough, it changed from dry to pouring rain in under a minute. Many farmers were unable to transport their complete balers, hence they only managed to bring the hitch pins, used for connecting machinery to the balers.
