Explosions Rock Crimea as Bridge Closes Following Russian Missile Attack
The Crimean Peninsula, currently under occupation, is experiencing a significant assault from unidentified aerial entities. Reports indicate explosions occurring across different regions of the area, with Russia’s anti-aircraft defenses reportedly engaged. These accounts come via the Krymskiy veter Telegram channel as well as Mikhail Razvozhayev, who claims to be the governor of Sevastopol.
At approximately 9:30 PM local Kyiv time, Razvozhayev stated that an air raid warning was issued in Crimea.
Shortly thereafter, surveillance channels started indicating that the peninsula was facing a major missile assault. It was reported that missiles had been sighted above Sevastopol, Alupka, Sudak, and Feodosia.
As a result, the Russians stopped sea transportation in the peninsula and shut down the Crimean Bridge. Additionally, Russia asserts that the missiles striking Crimea are of the Neptune type, and they claim to have successfully intercepted these projectiles.
It was also reported that a Russian fighter jet was scrambled from the Saki airfield in Novofedorivka.
Drone attacks in Crimea
Since 2014, Russia has controlled Crimea. Recently though, the region has faced recurrent drone assaults. These drones have primarily aimed at military installations, command centres, and anti-aircraft units.
Significantly, on the night of May 2, intense explosions echoed through various regions and towns throughout Crimea. The military installations and airstrips on the peninsula faced a substantial onslaught carried out using attack drones, complemented by another assault launched from maritime unmanned vessels.
As per sources aligned with one side of the conflict, Russian troops are relocating their military hardware and anti-aircraft defenses across the peninsula haphazardly, seemingly to evade potential strikes from Ukraine.
