Bon Air Neighbors Lose Faith in Duquesne Light as Power Restoration Dates Keep Slipping

Neighbors in Bon Air are still dealing with a lack of power and a mess in their neighborhood.

A week after the intense storms hit the area, trees, power lines, and utility poles remain fallen.

“Just trying to be level-headed and know that everyone is working toward getting it fixed,” Ryan Cavanaugh said. He’s storing food at his parents’ house and showering at the gym.

Channel 11 visited the same area five days ago.

Next, we observed several broken trees. One was located in Cavanaugh’s front yard.

"You've been in situations where your eyes struggle to accept what they're witnessing? The scenery had completely changed. It was utterly surreal," he mentioned.

The tree is lying on his neighbor’s house.

The region is among multiple areas that Duquesne Light currently states will be affected. have power restored Wednesday rather than the initial Tuesday deadline.

"Duquesne Light continues to tell us one thing, but the deadline keep getting pushed further away. It’s tough,"Emma McDonough stated.

The woman, along with her spouse Jimmy and their son Eli, find themselves trapped in darkness.

“The hardest part is not being able to plan or prepare,” Jimmy said.

They tell Channel 11 they’ve seen a number of crews, just not ones making repairs.

"We've had quite a few people watching the wires," Jimmy stated.

Emma mentioned, "They work for 12 hours in exactly this spot."

We inquired with DLC regarding the function of wire watchers and their inability to perform repairs. The response we got was as follows:

At DLC, most employees have storm roles to ensure efficient and safe restoration to customers. “Line Sitters” are responsible for keeping the public safe until qualified first responders or lineworkers arrive. The reason that line sitters can’t work on lines is because they are not qualified lineworkers and can come from different departments around the company.

Someone did assess damage on Monday.

Neither the McDonough family nor Ryan Cavanaugh believes they will have their power restored anytime soon.

"Unless they possess some enchanted method for returning and repairing those poles," Cavanaugh stated.

"Unless they have a magic wand that can set the poles up for us," Emma stated.

No magic yet.
