Blue Jays Followers React to Yusei Kikuchi Bombshell

The Toronto Blue Jays (16-18) are prepared to take on the Los Angeles Angels (13-20) in the first game of a three-game set at Angel Stadium on Tuesday evening. Seeking to bounce back after losing their last series against the Cleveland Guardians, the Blue Jays hope to enhance their away performance which currently stands at 5 wins out of 10 games played outside their home field. On the other hand, the Angels aim to elevate themselves within the AL West rankings as they work through inconsistent play throughout the season.

In this game, we see a reunion with ex-Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi, who currently plays for the Angels. After joining the Toronto team in 2022, Kikuchi was moved from the Blue Jays to the Houston Astros just before the 2024 trade deadline. Following that, he secured a three-year contract worth $63 million with Los Angeles during the subsequent off-season. While pitching for the Blue Jays, Kikuchi contributed significantly by providing much-needed innings and consistency to their rotation.

Before Tuesday’s match, Kikuchi disclosed that he didn’t get an offer from the Blue Jays during the free agency period. He showed comprehension, pointing out the rise of Bowden Francis in the latter part of the prior season as a reason. Nonetheless, Kikuchi conveyed his fondness for Toronto, mentioning he “adores” the city and cherishes his past experiences there.

Fans of the Blue Jays voiced their disappointment on social media about the team’s choice not to bring back Kikuchi.

“Oh come on!!!” someone exclaimed. “Jays’ management couldn’t figure out how to utilize Kikuchi???_installed

"This front office sucks," said another. "Why not offering Kikuchi."

"It's too bad the Jays didn't know they would need at least 5 starters," one added.

"Man, they really should have brought Bru back; he was the most entertaining to watch in rotation when he was at his best," argued someone.

"Would rather have him here instead of 'Home Run Derby' Francis at this moment," another commented.

In the 2025 season with the Angels, Kikuchi has faced difficulties, posting a win-loss record of 0-4 along with an ERA of 4.21 and a WHIP of 1.54 across 36.1 innings. Even though he hasn’t had the best performance, his absence is noted in Toronto, particularly considering the Blue Jays’ pitching rotation problems at present.
