Beloved Black Bear at Noah's Ark Sanctuary Passes Away, Organization Announces

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The much-loved black bear named Baloo from the Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary has passed away, as reported by the sanctuary.

The sanctuary mentioned that Baloo was "euthanized humanely" following an injured leg in April.

The sanctuary reported that Baloo stumbled, which impaired his ability to move properly in his hindquarters. Nonetheless, since X-rays and CT scans were unsuitable due to his large size, they couldn't examine his spine. The facility mentioned that Baloo experienced a loss of interest in food along with growing indications of pain.

Baloo was the final surviving member of the "BLT" group, which consisted of three creatures saved from a house in Atlanta back in 2001. This included Baloo, who is a black bear that formed strong bonds with both Leo—a lion from Africa—and Shere Khan, a Bengal tiger.

The trio resided in the same habitat during their time at the sanctuary. Leo passed away in 2016 and Shere Khan died in 2018.
