Baltimore's Homicide Numbers Keep Dropping: A Closer Look at the City's Progress

Baltimore continues to see a historic drop in the crime rate.
So far this year, 43 individuals have lost their lives in the city, which is a decrease compared to the 59 fatalities recorded during the same period last year. By May 6th of this year, 2023 had seen a total of 89 homicide cases.

"Continuing our efforts is essential. Now is not the moment for celebration; instead, it’s an opportunity to recognize the advancements made while reflecting on the journey so far and committing further resources to this cause," Scott stated.
For Scott, this involves supporting local organizations such as LifeBridge Health and ROCA. Additionally, he backs the Baltimore Peace Movement, an entity established in 2017. Known officially as Baltimore Ceasefire, this group aims to motivate individuals toward peace and encourage them to cherish their lives.
"That covers everything involved in equipping individuals with the necessary skills during disputes, along with providing mediation and conflict coaching, enabling them to genuinely engage in dialogue, settle their disagreements, and accomplish this without anyone suffering harm or ending up incarcerated," explained Erricka Bridgeford from the Baltimore Peace Movement.
This weekend, the Baltimore Peace Movement is organizing various activities aimed at promoting peace and celebrating life. Participants can join in on marches, community cleanup efforts, and ceremonial gatherings to create sanctuaries of tranquility.
Scott stated that violence intervention organizations play a crucial role in reducing violent crime.
