WMBD Sports Roundup: Top Highlights from May 6, 2025
PEORIA, Illinois (WMBD) — The Morton girls' soccer team secured an impressive victory over Dunlap with a score of 8-1 on Tuesday evening at their home field. This win puts the Potters in prime position to defend their title as Mid-IlliConference champions.
During seniors' night, the Potters scored four goals within the initial 19 minutes, taking an early lead over the Eagles and coasting through the remainder of the game.
In softball, Dunlap’s number two team in Class 3A fended off an upset attempt from Limestone with a score of 4-3, maintaining their unbeaten record in league competition and leading the conference standings solo.
In the meantime, No. 5 Washington defeated Pekin with a score of 4-1, maintaining their position in second place. This match took place only a day after they won against No. 8 Metamora in a rescheduled game.
To avenge their previous walk-off defeat against Canton from last week, East Peoria secured a commanding 9-1 victory over the Little Giants.
On Tuesday, Dunlop concluded Metamora’s flawless 19-0 season. For the Redbirds, their top player, Dane Hutchison, secured victory after a tough battle in three sets against Dunlop’s Andrew Choy with scores of 6-7, 6-3, 10-6. Additionally, their second-ranked player, Adam Culp, triumphed over Dunlap’s Harmin Patel with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-3.
However, Dunlap’s doubles teams ultimately emerged victorious, securing the 5-4 victory for the Eagles.
