Wedding Guest Trashes Hotel Room After Finding Shocking Messages on Partner’s Phone

A wedding guest smashed up a hotel room after losing his temper upon finding messages he disapproved of on his companion's cellphone.

Kevin Taylor had been at the festive ceremony with his long-term partner when he decided to check the contents of her phone when she left it unguarded. Dundee Sheriff Court was told that Taylor didn't like what he found and began hurling items, including furniture, around the Premier Inn room.

Taylor was causing such a disturbance during the incident that worried occupants in the adjacent room felt compelled to dial for help. police for help.

Fiscal depute Kate Scarborough told the court: "The complainer had been in a relationship with the accused for approximately 12 years. Their relationship is characterized as on-and-off.

"They attended a wedding in St Andrews and were staying overnight in the Premier Inn. In the early hours the complainer was woken by the accused.

"He was chatting and becoming increasingly angry. He had been looking through the complainer's phone and this was the trigger for a verbal argument.

"He started to throw items of property and furniture around. The accused took the phone and smacked it on a cabinet, which caused the screen to smash."

Taylor's solicitor told the court : "He does accept his behaviour and completely regrets his actions on that night."

Taylor, 32, from Edinburgh , admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner in the Premier Inn on 28 December and he was placed under social work supervision for 18 months.
