Waipio Soccer Complex Set to Close: Field Maintenance Underway

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The city’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has announced that the Waipio Soccer Complex will be closed throughout June 2025.
The one-month shutdown will enable numerous comprehensive outdoor and indoor upkeep initiatives to be carried out, such as:
- Field aeration
- Vertical mowing (a lawn care technique to remove upper layers of thatch)
- Weed control
- Fertilizing
- Soil cultivation
- Irrigation repairs
- Sidewalk maintenance
- Renovating traffic islands
- Power washing
- Extra checks and fixes for plumbing issues
Since the summer of 2022, officials have implemented scheduled shutdowns and specific break times at the facility to restore the playing surfaces and facilities without the constant deterioration from continuous use.
Spanning 288 acres, the Waipio Soccer Complex is equipped to accommodate the numerous soccer players in Hawaii across its 21 standard-sized fields. It features a stadium with seating capacity for 5,000 spectators, complete with lighting for night games.
