PHOTOS: Dramatic Floods Sweep Through Honesdale

Sections of Honesdale in Wayne County experienced flash floods on Tuesday evening, leading to some areas being shut down for vehicles.
Several locations such as the junction of 4th and Main Street, Terrace and Vine Streets, along with Erie Street were impacted due to flooding from a creek inundating the roads. Authorities have advised motorists to seek alternative paths during this day. Additionally, the 5th Street pedestrian bridge is witnessing some overflow.
Mayor Derek Williams stated in an announcement to FOX56: “Every year, the severe thunderstorms we experience put additional strain on our deteriorating stormwater system. When heavy rains occur, they can lead to blockages or breaks in our current pipeline network, resulting in flooded streets. We appreciate the community’s ongoing patience and support as we tackle these challenges. Special thanks go out to our governmental grant providers who assist with planning sustainable strategies over time. Additionally, I extend my gratitude to our first responders and municipal workforce members for ensuring everyone remains secure during such incidents.”
