Pedestrian Fatality: Drunk Driver Allegedly Veers Onto Sidewalk in Southwest Las Vegas

A person died and someone else was taken into custody for driving under the influence after an accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon.

The event took place approximately at 4:45 p.m. on Warm Springs Road and Mann Street, close to Jones Boulevard, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Authorities say a 2008 Volkswagen Passat was traveling west on Warm Springs when the driver failed to maintain its travel lane and left the roadway to the right.

The Passat subsequently began traveling on the pavement, where it ultimately collided with both a lamppost and a person walking.

After the collision, the car re-entered the road and halted within the westbound driving lanes.

The medical staff reached the location and pronounced the pedestrian deceased upon arrival.

The motorist operating the Volkswagen, recognized as 38-year-old Daniel Stakleff, stayed at the location following the incident. He exhibited indications of intoxication and was subsequently taken into custody for charges including DUI causing fatality and reckless operation leading to death.

On Wednesday, he made an appearance in court and continues to be held without bail. His subsequent court date is set for Monday, May 12th.

The individual who died, aged 23, has been named by the Clark County Coroner's Office as Joree Odabi from Las Vegas.

The incident is still being investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section.
