Mandan Road Project Advances as Parking Space Concerns Grow

MANDAN, N.D. (KFYR) – A significant road enhancement initiative in Mandan, which has faced some opposition due to the rearrangement of parking spots, seems likely to proceed at this stage.
On Tuesday, Mandan City Commissioners listened to public feedback regarding the proposed initiative. The plan involves modifications from 1st Street NW to 6th Avenue NW and extends an additional block along both directions of 5th Avenue NW as well as one block north and south on 4th Avenue NW.
The primary objective stated by city officials is to enhance accessibility in downtown Mandan.
Nevertheless, the segment of the project that entailed swapping diagonal parking spots for parallel ones has sparked criticism among certain residents and entrepreneurs.
The commission endorsed a decision stating that written objections filed with less than 30 days' notice did not constitute a majority of the property area encompassed by the project.
“If this moves forward, we’ll keep in touch with you throughout the process to get your feedback on potential design options,” stated Mandan Mayor Jim Froehlich.
The overall expense for the project exceeds $6.7 million. Building work is scheduled to start the following year.
