Man Accused of Elder Exploitation Captured in Florida, Back to Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDG/WAGT) — Authorities have apprehended a man in Florida who is facing charges related to the exploitation of his step-grandfather in Richmond County.
Lamontra Medlock, 49, was taken into custody last week in St. Augustine, Florida, by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, which includes two Richmond County Sheriff’s Office investigators.
The task force typically concentrates on violent criminals; however, the nature of Medlock’s alleged offenses led them to offer their support.
Medlock was taken into custody based on a warrant from the Grand Jury for charges including Exploitation and Intimidation of a Disabled Adult, Elderly Person, or Resident. Additionally, he faces 12 felony counts of Theft by Deception and one misdemeanor charge of Theft by Deception.
Medlock is charged with forgery and improper use of his 86-year-old step-grandfather’s banking and credit card accounts from January through July 2022.
He allegedly wrote checks to himself totaling $42,600, accumulated $6,821.13 in unauthorized credit card charges, and made over $26,000 in phone payments.
Medlock is currently detained at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
