Lopez's Fans Cheer as Buxton and Correa Homers: Twins Pummel Orioles
Pablo López was handling things on the mound, but Carlos Correa launched a soaring two-run home run during a five-run outburst in the third inning. The Minnesota Twins went on to secure their third successive win, defeating the Baltimore Orioles with a score of 9-1 on Tuesday evening at Target Field in Minneapolis.
In the bottom of the third, The Twins (16-20) took control as they racked up four consecutive and five overall hits. Byron Buxton started scoring for them with an RBI double. In their following turn at bat, Ryan Jeffers drove in two runs with a solid single. Then Jorge Polanco extended their advantage when he smashed a remarkable 458-foot two-run home run, matching his longest blast since joining the team. This surge propelled Minnesota ahead by a score of 5-0.
Meanwhile, Lopez was dominant through five innings, with his only mistake occurring in the fourth when he conceded an RBI double to Ryan Mountcastle, which stood as the sole score for the Orioles (13-21). This hit accounted for one of merely two base knocks Lopez permitted, along with one walk and 11 strikeouts. He concluded his outing having thrown 98 pitches and reduced his season ERA to 2.18.
Royce Lewis made his debut for the Twins after returning from injury, batting fifth as the designated hitter. He went 0 for 4, reaching base once on an Orioles fielding error. He didn't strike out.
In the seventh inning, the Twins secured their lead by scoring four additional runs. This surge came courtesy of Byron Buxton’s three-run home run and an RBI single from Correa. By the end of the game, Correa had gone 3 for 4 at bat, driving in three runs overall.
The Twins and Orioles will face off once more with a 6:40 p.m. CT start time on Wednesday at Target Field.
