Kuwaiti Man Smuggles Crocodile Past Checkpoint, Insists It Was Just a Pet

Cairo: A Kuwaiti A man was apprehended for unlawful possession of an item. crocodile once law enforcement halted his vehicle at a roadblock.

Officials in the Farwaniya Governorate, located south of Kuwait City, handed over a man—said to be around 30 years old—to the General Department of Environment following an inspection in the Abdullah Al Mubarak region. The officers found a reptile within a box in his car during this standard check. Al Anba newspaper reported.

Kuwait MPs push for ban on wild animal trade

A security source informed the newspaper that the motorist seemed quite jittery when going through the checkpoint, which led to a more thorough examination.

When asked, the man said he was raising the crocodile.

The Dubai Zoo has relocated its animals to Kuwait.

Under Kuwaiti law, breeding wild animals is illegal due to a number of mauling incidents and deadly attacks that have occurred over the past few years.

The authorities have strict rules prohibiting the entry of any animals into Kuwait — which has approximately 4.9 million inhabitants — unless they receive permission from the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources. The ban includes predatory creatures, venomous reptiles, and primates.
