"The department expressed deep gratitude for all the support received during recent days, stating that your messages, prayers, and encouragement were invaluable to both Officer Hodam and his family as well as the whole Edmond Police Department community," they shared in an official statement.

According to court documents, the suspect identified as 22-year-old Ocean Hudson rushed up to Hodam while he was conducting a traffic stop near 15th Street and Broadway. Hudson reportedly had a can of pepper spray and sprayed the officer in the face, starting a fight.

Hudson subsequently stabbed Hodam at least twice.

The suspect told police he stabbed the officer because he wanted Hodam to shoot him, saying "I'm supposed to be in prison today," according to the court documents. Hudson had been set to appear in court that day but did not show up.

Hodam and Hudson were both transported to a medical facility following the event.
